What The Eff Is Cuticle Oil?

Cuticle Oil is a blend of different oils to create the perfect mix that your nails will absorb. It's different from all of the other cream and oils you could put on there.

Here's why it's the absolute T*TS and why your nails and cuticles will love you forever-ever. Use it everyday to:

  • Strengthen nails
  • Maintain flexibility of the nail
  • Hydrate dry skin around the nail
  • Soften cuticles
  • Make Shellac/Nail paint/Acrylic last longer
  • Keep Shellac/Nail paint/Acrylic super shiny

Different brands of cuticle oil contain different things. The best ingredients include:

  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Rice Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Vitamin E
  • Essential Oils (Citrus, Vanilla, Bergamot, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Lavender)

The molecules for these oils are tiny enough to actually soak through the skin around the nail (the eponychium) and the nail itself (the nail plate). Everything else will just sit on top and not soak in. "Cuticle" is the name for the dead skin around the eponychium and on the nail plate.

Little tip: Having your "cuticles done" should never hurt or make you feel "bald" (as my friend once described it, haha!) A good nail tech will only ever remove the excess, dead skin that comes away from your nail plate. Never the living tissue. IT CAN CAUSE INFECTION AND WILL GROW BACK THICKER, causing a never-ending cycle.... nobody wants that.

Keep your cuticles happy! Perfectly nourished, hydrated skin and nails will make your acrylics last for longer :)

Nails are made up of many layers of the protein Keratin. When they separate, that is when the nail becomes weak, can peel and/or break.

Ways that nail layers can separate:

  • Soaking in water
  • Using cleaning detergents/washing up liquid without wearing gloves
  • Picking off Shellac/Nail paint/Acrylics
  • Biting nails

Cuticle oil strengthens nails and binds the layers of Keratin. It's also great for keeping them flexible so if your nails feel strong but still break (they're brittle), then this is for you too!

My favourites are Solar Oil by CND (smells like almond mmm) and Dadi Oil (Be warned: it's ridiculously luxurious and you'll want to smother your entire self in it, not just your nails)

I use it after every single manicure and pedicure service, every Shellac, every full set of acrylic extensions and every rebalance. You CAN NOT USE ENOUGH! (or twice daily would be perfect)

TOP TIP: Place it next to your toothbrush so you use it every day! Once it goes into your favourite bag or draw, it's most likely never to be seen again....

Lucky for you, I stock CND Solar Oil at the studio! Order a bottle via my online shop or pick some up after your next nail service with me...
